Thank you for reminding me about that scene in Field of Dreams- so spot on. I’ll also checkout the documentary and the toolkit. We’ve got to fight back in this stuff.
Thank you for this, Elisa. Shocking, enlightening, and actually encouraging. And at a time when there is vanishingly little encouraging news out there. Yes, you were right to post. Resistance never sleeps.
We are proud contributors to our local Multnomah County Library. Among U.S. libraries serving fewer than one million residents, Multnomah County Library ranks No. 2 in annual circulation of books and other materials, according to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) FY2022 Public Libraries Survey.
My liberal Republican father (an extinct species) believed in the following: Illigitimus non carborandum. Thats Latin for don't let the bastards get you down.
Thank you for this. I needed inspiration to keep going, especially on these issues. I have family on the opposite end. Its inconceivable to me that people don't or won't understand these foundational values until they are taken from us, along with our national dignity and honor.
Wow. Great job, Abby. We even chose the same title! I had to look at my calendar to see how I could possibly have missed this event last summer. We had family visiting that week. Glad it will be on PBS soon (presuming we get to keep PBS) to reach a wider audience.
Thanks for this, Elisa. The Founders debated issues ferociously. We’ve lost the art of discourse and have turned from viewing our American pluralism as a strength to believing “different from me” is “wrong”. As parents, we made the decisions about what we watched on TV, what magazines came into the house, and books that were age appropriate for summer reading. I didn’t expect anyone to conform to our choices, believing after all, this was America. Other parents had the same right. Reading lists from school broadened our understanding of contemporary culture and we gained as much as our kids did reading a variety of authors. Being open to new ideas keeps me young and learning. I truly grieve over the closing of American minds to books of different worldviews. What a pity librarians are taking the hit for this.
Thanks for making the decision to post. Your voice and all our voices need to be heard otherwise we are left feeling like powerless victims. Onwards with actions and with art and with community 💞

Thanks, Steph. Keep up the good fight!
Thank you Elisa for this important post. I agree with Kim. We need the inspiration.
Thanks so much, Priya!

Thanks for the support, Brigit! Hope your writing is going well.
Meh. Research coming along swimmingly (wink wink); writing, not so much.
Thanks, Elisa, for going forward and posting this. What a time we are living in right now and need all the inspiration we can get.
Thanks, Kim. Keep up the good fight!

Good for you, Bruce! We all need to rally around the libraries.
Thank you for posting, esp today.
Even in West Tisbury we dealt with ppl wanting to censor what was included in our collection.
Can’t wait to see this.
Wow. That’s so disturbing.
Thanks for the inspiration.

Vicki, Kaitlin's Mom. 😉
Thanks so much, Vicki. Stay strong!
Elisa, here's a link to my review for the MV Times of that fabulous film: https://www.mvtimes.com/2025/07/31/librarians-on-the-frontline/.

What can I say...

Thanks for such a thoughtful comment, Deanne. The world would be a better place if people like you were in charge!
