Love this. I got most of my info about the Grands from my mother in the last few years. Suzie Teaney interviewed her Father. Amazing!

Good for you, Doylie! And Suzie too. You don’t get another chance.

There were too many to choose from. Not to mention the haircuts.

Very true, good advice. (But where’s the picture of you dressed like a dork?)

Such a good message. I did some of this with my mother and father before they passed, but wish I’d done more.

Elisa

Loved the piece. Actually made me forget for a brief moment the abject cruelty now enshrined in law on the treatment of immigrants that will make the Japanese internment camp you wrote about look like a 5 star hotel. Can't understand how some humans can be so immoral and despicable.

Happy 4th!!

I didn't do this with my grandparents, but a few years ago I recorded interviews with both parents, and I'm so grateful for their indulgence. Every day I think of more questions for my mother, who passed in 2023.

The story of the Roman/Romero family was passed down verbally from Nana Romero and Papa Roman.

Those stories inspired my decision to study history and english as a college undergraduate.

The Call of Stories by Robert Coles, Chapter 1 (Stories & Theories) should be required reading for high school seniors and college freshman.

Ooh. I'll have to track down the Coles book. I probably had it back in the day.

My brother and I interviewed my (step)father about his life over several zooms during the pandemic. He’s 94 now and his cognition is t so great so happy we did that. My other father wrote his own book.

Also- loved the Italian Prisoner.
