Libraries are a key tool in our battle to preserve the history that the current administration is working to deny and destroy. Thank you, Elisa, for touting their importance and for suggesting ways we may support libraries and librarians while they withstand this assault. Knowledge is power.
Libraries ARE high on the list. At or near the top. I recall reading about a library in Lebanon where nearly 50,000 books were destroyed to due arson by most likely a religious extremist. We must hang on to what we can, however we can.
Such an important movement. I too spent a lot of time in libraries growing up. Book burning is abhorrent to me and so against our founding values. If you don’t like the book don’t read it. And maybe enter into a prolific discussion with others about it.
I have a major problem with this post though. Elisa - a GREEN Red Sox hat???
Yes, Bevin. Good eye. It was a special edition with a shamrock on the back. I'm kind of a purist and never wear it, so I repurposed it for my "Banned Bookworm" Mardi Gras costume--figured the "B" was dual purpose!
This post comes at a time when we are working weekly with our new (built just 2 years ago) local library here in East Asheville for public meetings, educational presentations (our local community just held a well attended presentation on bird friendly gardening!), and food waste composting. On Saturday mornings they hold a kids workshop where parents show up with you children for book readings. Its always packed! You're so right that we have to stay focused on protecting our libraries and available reading materials.
Hands off our libraries and everything else!

Love this and especially love the many mini books on your hat - from one nerd to another 😁
Thanks, Steph!
Right on!

A great example of the kind of work libraries are doing these days. And our hearts go out to Asheville as you rebuild. 💜
